OK, spill the beans; what is “Life Reference” all about?
Fine, I’ll spill the beans…
Life Reference is a blog about life, but it isn’t really about my life or anyone’s in particular; it’s about life in general. The reference part refers to something that determines how we view life itself: References (sometimes called “frames of reference”).
Our “references” are little mental tags that trigger an understanding.
References are memories, experiences or cultural ‘norms’ that we might share with others. For example, if I would say “Go see Cal” to someone who grew up in the LA area in the 60′s or 70′s, they would recognize a TV commercial for Cal Worthington’s car dealerships. If you’ve never eaten Campbell’s chicken noodle soup, and I told you that something tasted like it, you wouldn’t know what I was talking about. References give us both shortcuts in communication and insight into issues that come up along life’s path.
This blog is all about life and the tags within us that add understanding to what we see around us.
Here are a few of my references: I am a middle-aged guy in America, I have experienced a lot of things and studied a lot of other things. I love history, human drama, art… and I write from a Christian perspective.
Life Reference is all about the odds and ends that shape the way we view life. It will be eclectic, sometimes strange, sometimes sensible and sometimes a challenge to your viewpoint. Hopefully it will end up being helpful to anyone who wants to live a full life and who wonders if it’s really worth all the effort.

I look forward to reading your blog, bro.
