I am the Vine…

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

(John 15:5)

This summer, I had vines popping up all over my yard; sometimes, I could find branches of the vine, but not the main plant. When I cut a branch off, the branch quickly died, but the vine kept growing back.  Now I’ll admit that in the garden, this is a real pain; it seems like every week the beds are a mess.  Of course it goes to show how tough the vine is, and how weak the branches are once you remove them!

Jesus uses the analogy of the vine to illustrate the Christina life, and it’s a great illustration.  We are the branches, He is the vine.  Apart from Him what can we do?  But the vine keeps growing…  If you’re a vine, you need to make sure that you remain connected to the main plant, and as Christians, we need to make sure that we remain connected to Jesus.  Let’s work every day to grow in our relationship with Christ.  If we do, we will grow and be unstoppable; if we don’t, it’s all over!

It may be that you aren’t sure how to stay connected to the vine… If so, please check out yesterday’s post on Individual Prayer.
