Something new!
I’ve been trying to come up with something different; I think I’ve mentioned that before. What I came up with was a weekly podcast.
I’ll tell you quite a bit more about it when you listen, it’s under 10 minutes, so you don’t need to worry that it will take up your morning. The idea is really just to have a little chat each week around the kitchen table with a cup of coffee or tea and visit a bit.
This first ever (for me) podcast isn’t anything challenging and brilliant; to be honest it’s more of an experiment than anything else. The mission was to see if I could find a (free) program to record, using my East German military surplus microphone, for which I paid less that a dollar and then edit it, save it, convert it to mp3, upload it and link it here… and actually have it work. Oh yeah, I gotta think of something to say, too. Anyway, give it a listen if you like, and let me know what you think about the idea, and PLEASE! Let me know if you have any suggestions or ideas about future content or topics.
In the interests of full and complete disclosure, this first ever podcast is actually me doing a Tutorial that came with the software, and all I’m really doing is “filling” so please have low expectations for the clever monologue; next week I’ll plan on actually having something to say.
(Well, that should keep the number of “hits” low!)
Here’s the link, with any luck this will actually work!
And, thanks for checking it out!
PS: I tested it just now and it actually played! Wahoo!
Nice one Don!
One of the things I love about the spoke word is getting the timing, emphasis, structure from the one delivering/writing the words. WP gives words on which I impose my own “sound effects.” A podcast gives “it all.”
Listening to this first one form you – one thought went through my mind. “Reading others’ blogs” does tend to spark thoughts and reactions – as you mentioned. Yet (I have found) writing that all up becomes quite long-winded – and can be tedious for the reader (if it is a sequence of blogs/pinged thoughts – which is how they mostly happen).
Would be curious about “hearing” the sequence of pings when it happens – to see if it works better as a podcast rather than writing.
That’s the attraction for me… way more non-verbal with voice that with writing, so there is a great opportunity to enhance the quality of communication.
Of course the sample i posted for this morning isn’t a very good example, other than to demonstrate that I didn’t have any idea what I was talking about! These aren’t going to be like that at all, but posting it will force me to stop putting the project off until next week as I’ve been doing. At any rate, it should be fun to play with, and if it catches on, it’ll will be useful, and maybe y’all will try it too.
Seven days. No pressure then. I know someone who could create more than a podcast in that time! 🙂
Yeah, me too… but I never had to come up with the subject!
Now there is a thought. God: What will I do this week ….? 🙂
If his answer is divide and destroy, please contact me before you do anything! 🙂
Worked for me
Thanks!
I enjoyed it. Thank you. Looking forward to seeing where the Holy Spirit leads you next week.
Me too!
Love it Don! What an exciting format! Cant wait for next Monday. So great to put a “voice” to your blog!
Katie
Thanks Katie; now all i need is something to talk about!
Yeah thats always tough for you Ive noticed. ????? 😁😁
You might be surprised! 🙂
I have faith in you!
Me too; just need to get serious about it 🙂
I really like this idea, Don, and you have a good voice. Perhaps you could comment on particular blogs that hit you the “right” way, thereby leading the rest of us to some good reading. Whatever you do will be Spirit led, therefore, successful.
I appreciate that, thank you!
Love hearing the voice behind the blog!!! How wonderful. You just keep blessing and blessing. I am so grateful. Have a wonderful day, Don!!
Thanks Skye!
Listening now. Lovely quality 🙂 Oh, you’ve ‘done radio’? Me too!
Yep, but you’d never guess it listening to that podcast!
On the contrary, Don – it shines through. Well done. And no um’s, ah’s or er’s either. You’re better’n me at that, ha!
None of those that I didn’t edit out, you mean!
Ooh, aren’t you determined! 😉 I insist it was a great listen, oh yeah, and I’ve just completed fitting out me own little studio…well, almost completed. One more cable should do it.
🙂
I was surprised by your wonderful voice! I look forward to the time when you do topic talks. I must confess I’ve thought of this before. In fact, years ago I wanted to do this, but I chickened out!
LOL I understand lots of people feel that way, but it isn’t any more scary that getting in front of a group and teaching, and that’s the easiest thing ever!
Love the idea, looking forward to listening. I had already given you a voice in my head as I read your post. LOL It was a little more gruff and somber. I don’t know why?? I had Paul talking like Antony Hopkins. I, myself sound like I’m a little girl – very intimidating, Not. Anyway, you were talking about maybe going through the book of Revelations. That’s my two cents for your pod cast. But, I am sure I will enjoy whatever you decided.
Revelation huh? Careful what you wish for! 🙂
Yes! a couple more of my cents… I think it would be easier to talk about than to write about because there is so much involved. Plus a lot of people are very interested it revaluations. I think you would get lots of listeners, comments and questions. I am wishing and hoping for it!
Oh great, now you’re in for four cents! Now I need to produce results: stress! 🙂
Seriously, I’ll think about it some more. It would be kind of fun…
First, though, I’ve got to get good at the podcast thing! 🙂
You are a very anointed teacher. Whatever The Lord leads you to do, it will be a blessing!!!
Oh you gave up too easily, you almost had me there! Anyway, thanks, i appreciate your confidence!
Oh, I am still wishing and hoping it will be revelations. If I start praying too your be in trouble. LoL
🙂
God’s will be done in Jesus name I pray and to God be all the glory and all the praise!
I love the podcast idea! It was fun to actually hear the voice behind the blog. I look forward to tuning in each week to see what you have to say! I like the idea you mentioned of talking about random thoughts that come to mind and short devotionals. I have no doubt that you will come up with some great subjects! What a blessing!
Thanks Elaine!

I think that went very well, Don. What software is that, btw? If you don’t mind the question… You have a great voice for broadcasting. Comfortable and natural, without that “slick pro” sound that so many radio hosts put on… sounds fake half the time. This seems like a great idea. I look forward to more.
Thanks LM; you’re more than kind… the software I’m trying to learn is Audacity which seems more than adequate for this job. If nothing else, it’ll be fun to see where if anyplace this goes
Hi Don. I enjoyed listening to your first podcast. It’s nice to hear the voice behind the post. I’m new to the blogging community and I’m eager to listen and learn. Like Jesus told Peter feed my flock, your teachings does just that. I keep coming back! Thank you for all that you do!
Thanks Jeanie, I’ll “see” you there!
I like this idea Don. Even when I was a kid I always liked to listen to talk radio shows. I will surely listen
Thanks, it’ll be great to have you along for the adventure
Excited you are going to be doing some podcasts. I enjoy reading your blog and look forward to future podcasts. Way to go!
Thanks Shelly!
