What we build

I really like architecture; it tells a story of time, history, fashion, art and human determination and effort.

Yet I have to admit that it doesn’t last forever; these buildings will come down one day…

They have withstood blizzards, storms, winds and lots of traffic for a long time, but they will fall down all the same…

The Kingdom of Heaven on the other hand will last forever; it cannot fail.

If we spend our lives building only things that will not last then all of our life’s work will die away with us.  But this is really not necessary, for we can work on building the Kingdom of Heaven as we go along.  As Christ’s followers we can all do our part in building the Body of Christ, something that will not only withstand the test of time, but the test of eternity as well.

  1. I recently found myself walking past a yearbook wall created by a high school that had rejected me for a job. It struck me just how “together” they had it, how proud they must be to be running such a large and seamless operation. And it occurred to me, “that will all fall down”. All the skyscrapers we’ve erected to reach heaven, all the society we’ve got humming like a fine motor…numbered days. All of them.

I love how the earth is putting on weight. Every archaeological dig is … digging. All the past is buried beneath layers of earth-fat. Is this a planet of milk and honey?
