Persecuted Because of Righteousness

As a rule, do you expect to see a righteous person persecuting another person because the persecuted person is righteous? My guess is “probably not.” If this is true, then what sort of person persecutes another because they are righteous? Again, my guess is that it would have to be an unrighteous person; it stands to reason, right?
God does not bless unrighteousness.
Righteousness happens when a person lives in accordance with the will of God, and when a person lives this way, he or she is considered by God to be “righteous”, and relationship between that person and God is in place; thus in this life such a person is blessed. Theirs is the kingdom of heaven in the here and now, in spite of persecution and they are blessed for all eternity.

There is a sect or ‘cult’ in the world today who claim to follow Jesus, yet they preach against born-again Christians all the time. They preach against everyone who believes that John 1:1 reads “In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God.” They condemn Rev. Billy Graham and others who preach what he preached. I have begun to feel this is a form of persecution.

I had never thought about it that way. I just thought I would be persecuted, and didn’t think about the person or people involved in the action. Thank you for getting my mind to consider that there are other people lives and actions that are part of my life that are affected by my persecutions. May we be all blessed by God.

Wow! I’m reading yesterday’s 1 Peter 3:13-17 “Opportunity and Suffering” with this, and it seems that Peter was listening when Jesus gave the “Sermon on the Mount,” as he is explaining what he had learned from Jesus’ words in Matthew 5:10.
